The storybook
“Hijo des chingada”
The phrase you took from your days in Mexico.
You brought it back with you,
and kept it in your storybook.
You gave the storybook to me,
when I was too young for that language,
and it made Grandmommy mad.
I looked everywhere for the true story about the phrase.
When I went away to school,
I met a boy from Mexico,
and I brought him your storybook.
When I asked him for the story,
he told it, and became my best friend.
The phrase I found at the end of my journey,
“Son of a whore"
